What is This?

My group for the CYCLE 1: AVATAR PROJECT decided to take a few days apart after receiving the brief to do our own research into various concepts of what an avatar, alter ego, or accomplice, could be.

I broke mine down into three solid subjects to discuss with them when we meet up again on Monday. The third: Mental Health and states of mind, personified.
Let’s start with an easy example...

in the Movie “Inside Out” ... a young girl’s emotions are all, in a way, avatars.

Anger
Joy
Disgust
Sadness
Fear

...

In my own mental health battles, I have versions of myself that sometimes I see as separate.

Sometimes there is a depressed Kat, there is an Anxious Kat, there’s a Young Kat. It can seem like a (not literal) out of body mental experience for example if say in thereapy you have to visit something about yourself from the past you haven’t thought about it in a while.

You talk about who you were then, the environment you were in, how you spent your time, and probably confront some memories you have been keeping stored inside only in that area of yourself.

There is good and bad about these approaches but essentially once you go through explaining in detail who you were as a person from another time, you see that person almost as separate from you. It becomes easier to look at issues from then because you can separate yourself from that “you.”

I wonder about creating some kind of avatar that would represent emotion or state of mind from other times in your life...without being too derivative of something like Inside Out just personifying emotion.
